Posted by | Posted on 13-08-2010
Rodrigo Estrada, a fifth-grader at O’Donnell Elementary School in Fabens, joined Safety Patrol because he wanted to help patrol his school and make sure students were safe and obeying the rules.
“It taught me responsibility, respect (and) dedication,” he said.
Rodrigo, 11, hopes to one day become a NASA engineer. He earns straight As, his favorite subject is science and he is in his school’s gifted and talented program.
Among his academic awards are the 2010 Dolores Bobcock Excellence Award, the gifted and talented science fair sweepstakes award, fourth place in the UIL creative writing contest, and the Safety Patrol Dedication and Hard Work Award.
Rodrigo also received a new bike as a prize for being the first-place winner of the accelerated reader contest and received medals for earning perfect scores on the math and reading TAKS tests for fifth grade.
