MAYNARDVILLE – Wednesday was a day of distinction for Dalton James “D.J.” Felt.

The 18-year-old, who has dyslexia and other learning disabilities, became valedictorian of his school, the Van Vuuren Academy.

With an audience of seven watching, he was, in fact, the private school’s sole graduate.

The young man, whose mother once was told that her son likely wouldn’t make it through school, clutched a diploma with a grin on his face.

“I’m feeling great,” he said. “I’m glad I made it through school without a scratch.”
