Great challenges await U of M’s next athletic director

St. Paul, Minn. Retiring University of Minnesota Athletics Director Joel Maturi will leave this June with a record of accomplishments: higher athlete grade point averages, a narrower budget deficit, and a wide array of small sports.

But there are also achievements that have eluded him over the last 10 years: Football or basketball championships — or at least winning programs.

That’s the big job awaiting his successor. And by no means is it the only one.

What is the cloud and what does it mean for education?

Weve been hearing a lot recently about the cloud but even if youre not totally sure what it entails, youre probably already using cloud computing technology. If you use web-based email service, for instance, youre using the cloud to store your data. Put simply, cloud computing involves storing data on third-party servers that can be accessed remotely, rather than on your personal hard drive. In the case of email, your emails and email software are stored on the services server, rather than on your computer and accessed through a program like Microsoft Exchange. The same idea applies if you use an app like Google Docs in place of Microsoft Office.

UPDATE: Kingsport man accused of killing landlord found guilty

He?s accused of killing his landlord with a single gun-shot to the head and leaving the victim’s body in a storage shed.

UPDATE: Feb. 9 1:48 p.m.

James Greenwell was found guilty today on all counts in a Sullivan County courtroom.

The prosecutor has recommended a life sentence without the possability of parole for 57 years.

Sentencing for Greenwell will take place Feb.
