Several notes today:
- The Ohio High School Athletic Association said there are 828 member schools for this school year. Four schools were admitted this past spring, including Oyler and Riverview East Academy.
- The OHSAA’s Joint Advisory Committee on Sports Medicine announced its 2010 Outstanding Team Physician Awards. Dr. Robert Burger (La Salle), Dr. Timothy Kremcheck (Moeller) were among the three individuals honored.
- Lakota West senior middle hitter Liz McMahon left for Singapore on Aug. 9 to represent the U.S. Junior National volleyball team. She was one of 12 players to make the team following tryouts in Colorado this past March. The games start this weekend and will go until Aug. 26.
- With a season-opening win over Villa Madonna Aug. 9, Lakota West girls’ golf coach Tim Lambert reached 100 career wins in head-to-head (dual, tri and quad) matches, according to the Lakota West website.
- Juniors and seniors of the Finneytown football team will be volunteering at the S3C 5K Walk starting at 9 a.m. Sept. 11 at Glenwood Gardens in Woodlawn. The event will support the American Cancer Society and Breast Cancer Awareness. Contact Sherrie Chenault at 295-4241 for more information about the event.
- The Mount Healthy athletic department is accepting nominations for its Athletic Hall of Fame. Nominations will be accepted through Aug. 30. For a nomination form, go to www.mthcs.org and click on Athletics or call athletic director Tina Tuck at 728-7650. The next hall of fame inductions will be held on during the football game vs. Northwest on Oct. 1.
- The 2nd Annual Sam Dillard Memorial Preview will showcase 16 area boys’ soccer teams at Summit Country Day on Aug. 21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Teams from Cincinnati Christian, Seven Hills, Reading, Milford, Walnut Hills, Indian Hill, Mariemont, CHCA, Monroe, Cincinnati Country Day, Madeira, Harrison, Badin, Amelia, Deer Park and Summit will participate.
- St. X senior Nick Albers is expected to be the Bombers’ starting quarterback for the season opener Aug. 29 against visiting Our Lady of Good Counsel (Md.).
- Senior RB Tucker Skove, senior DL Jesse Hayes, senior LB Kendall Walker, senior LB Dylan Ruter and senior OL Joseph Tull have been named captains of the Moeller football team this season.
- Enquirer Northern Kentucky football preview section prints Sunday (Aug. 15). Ohio prints Aug. 22.
