Football is around the corner but recruiting is always present

Taft senior standouts Adolphus Washington and Dwayne Stanford told the Enquirer this week that they have selected schools for two of their five official visits. The pair spoke in an interview for a story that will be part of our annual high school football preview.

Washington, a TE/DE who is being recruited on the defensive side of the ball, said he will take official visits to Alabama and Miami (Fla.) as part of his decision-making process. Washington is ranked No. 96 on the ESPNU 150 list. He said he has already taken unofficial visits to UC and Ohio State.

Stanford is one of the nations top prospects at WR. He is ranked No.

Boone County baseball standout commits

Boone County baseball coach Wayne Huff says senior standout infielder/pitcher Doug Teegarden has made a verbal commitment to play at Eastern Kentucky University. Teegarden, who was a first-team Enquirer Northern Kentucky all-star selection this spring, hit .506 with four homers and 31 RBI and was 3-2 with a 3.50 ERA. Huff said Teegarden was recruited as a middle infielder by EKU. He chose EKU over Morehead State and Lake Erie College.

When I come across a good story on concussions or studies that aim to help understand and prevent them, I like to share them here on the blog.

Keeping the issue fresh in the minds of players, parents and coaches is important to help keep those participating in the game so many of us are passionate about safe.

I came across this story posted on ESPN.com’s Page 2 this week. It’s about a study conducted at Virginia Tech that created a ratings system that ranked every brand and each model of football helmet currently on the market.

King’s Schools to host Quincy Pondexter’s inaugural camp

King’s Schools will host the inaugural Quincy Pondexter hoops camp, the school announced Tuesday.

Shoreline, Wash. (July 19, 2011) – King’s Schools has announced it will host the inaugural Quincy Pondexter Basketball Camp at its Shoreline campus on August 2-5, 2011. The former University of Washington star and current member of the New Orleans Hornets is holding his instructional camp for boys and girls between the ages of 6-16. The camp will take place each day from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. on the home court of the King’s Knights, Mike Martin Gymnasium (19303 Fremont Ave.
