Western Hills senior right tackle Aliou Diouf said last year’s successful season for the Mustangs was a building block for this upcoming August.

With a 7-3 record in 2010, it was definitely a significant step in the right direction for Western Hills, which is expected to be among the top teams in the Cincinnati Metro Athletic Conference again this season after struggling in recent years.

Mercer Island QB Jeff Lindquist talks about Elite 11

When asked what it felt like to be named the No. 4 quarterback at the Elite 11 camp, Mercer Island’s Jeff Lindquist said it is “something you should build on, not sit on.”

After statements like that, it is not a surprise the camp counselors named him the player with the best attitude. Lindquist spent last week in Malibu, Calif. on the Pepperdine University campus, competing against the nation’s top quarterbacks. He put together a very strong performance.

“It was definitely a tough camp,” the 6-foot-3, 225-pound quarterback said.

Updated Deveroes Summer League schedule

The Deveroes Summer League announced an update to its schedule for this weekend and into next week at Woodward High School.

There will be only two games Saturday (July 9) instead of the original four games scheduled.

Also, there will be four games on Sunday (July 10). The 4 p.m. game has been canceled.

There will be no games on Wednesday, July 13.

The tournament announced today that all teams will make the postseason and opening rounds were added for Tuesday, July 19 at 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Madeira announces 2011 Athletic Hall of Fame class

The Madeira High School Athletic Hall of Fame has selected its 2011 class. The induction ceremony will take place Friday, Sept. 9 in the football stadium before the football game with North College Hill. The new inductees are:

  • Josh Cohen (1995-99) football, basketball and baseball
  • Ashlee Edgell (2002-06) swimming and cross country
  • Bob Gripshover (1942-46) football, basketball and baseball
  • Terry Hartley (1965-69) football, basketball and baseball
  • Bill Kelly (1942-46) football, basketball and baseball
